![]() ![]() Tim "Ripper" Owens, formerly of Winter's Bane, replaced Halford in 1996 and recorded two albums with Judas Priest, before Halford returned to the band in 2003. The band's membership has seen much turnover, including a revolving cast of drummers in the 1970s and the departure of singer Rob Halford in 1992. Despite an innovative and pioneering body of work in the latter half of the 1970s, the band had struggled with indifferent record production and a lack of major commercial success until 1980, when they rose to commercial success with the album British Steel. You could almost visualize the white piano in the corner.” “One night while we were there, John Lennon was on the TV playing ‘Imagine,’ and of course it was very weird to be in the actual room where he’d been filmed. What came out was a set of very simple yet effective songs that, I’d like to think, helped to shape what else was going on at the time. “I’ll always recall that 1980 was a great summer, and being in such an inspirational surrounding definitely rubbed off on us. Until that point, we’d never worked that way before. “We had gone into Tittenhurst Park, the home of Ringo Starr, who had bought it from John Lennon, after a previous attempt at another studio, and with only half of its songs written. In an interview with Metal Hammer Judas Priest’s guys talked about it. Judas Priest have written lots of iconic songs during their career and many of them aren’t only iconic, they reached the level of Heavy Metal anthems. ![]()
